Software: Chinese ministries using office software instead of MS Office

Fifteen Chinese ministries have upgraded their office software to the latest version of a homegrown brand, a rival to Microsoft Corp (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people), a newspaper said on Friday.

The Ministry of Commerce, the Foreign Ministry and the National Security Bureau and other governmwent departments had upgraded to WPS Office2003 from an earlier version developed by domestic software maker Kingsoft Co, the Peoples Daily newspaper reported.

That's true.
I am using socalled KIngsoft WPS office2003,which can deal with most of M$ office files. With much smaller size (120M setup package), integ'rated with another kind of word ,excel, powerpoint, and even outlook. more open interface with vb and c, friendly interface to M$ office, and support with network.

I have to admit WPS is more lame than M$, but , it is the sign of newly-borned trend -- m$ is going unwelcomed.
