Just received the following mail from Symantec:
Java LiveUpdate (JLU) is a Symantec component technology that is used to download and apply program and content updates for Symantec products. This technology currently appears in most Symantec products that run on non-Windows and non-Macintosh platforms.
The new features of the next release of JLU are as follows:
- Extend the platform support of Java LiveUpdate (JLU) to include the Windows and Macintosh platforms.
- Support and leverage the Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture (SESA).
- Support multiple hosts.
- Support connections over non-standard HTTP ports.

Who might these new features help?
- Any customers interested in deploying SESA or managing their existing JLU installation via SESA may be interested in participating in this external test. JLU v2.0 will now log JLU events with the local SESA agent and allow JLU to retrieve new configuration information through SESA. In addition, the SESA console can be used to view JLU events and to create and distribute new JLU configurations. Note that JLU will require the SESA agent to be first deployed and configured on each client before it can use this feature.
- The additional platform support in JLU will allow Symantec products to begin to deploy JLU on all Symantec supported platforms should they wish. However, at this time this is not a feature that can be exploited by our customers since no Symantec products currently use JLU v2.0.
- By supporting non-standard HTTP ports, this will allow JLU users to setup their LiveUpdate HTTP servers on non-standard ports in situations where port 80 may not be available.
- By adding support for multiple hosts, users may now list multiple LU servers in their JLU settings file. If JLU cannot connect to the first server in the list it will automatically fail-over to the next host (LU server) listed.
More info coming up soon...
