Symantec on Monday unveiled plans for upgraded PC security products with anti-spam, password-management, and upgraded personal firewall capabilities.

Norton Internet Security 2004, scheduled to be available in mid-September, is designed to protect against Internet threats including spyware, viruses and spam, and provide firewall, intrusion detection, privacy protection, content filtering and ad blocking capabilities.

Norton AntiSpam 2004, which is included in Norton Internet Security, uses a statistical technique called Bayesian filtering to analyze every word of every incoming e-mail message, comparing each message with known patterns for spam and good e-mail. Users can easily "train" Bayesian filters to distinguish good mail from spam. The anti-spam software starts to work once its activated, and users can easily customize it over time to match their own criteria as to whats spam and whats good mail simply by clicking buttons on their software toolbar while reading messages.
