koolboyztn writes "Improvements in WinZip 9.0 concentrate on its core functionality: compression, capacity, and a new, advanced data encryption capability. Using WinZip 9.0, you can compress more data, compress it better, and protect your sensitive documents with far greater security.
What New:
- Shortcut menus for files in the WinZip Classic interface main window now include commands associated with the files generic type, if one is defined. For example, the menu for a bitmap (.BMP) file will now include any commands associated with the generic "image" file type as well as those that are explicitly associated with bitmap files.
- WinZip now supports the Whats This? menu for many dialog controls. To display brief help information for a dialog control, simply right-click the control and click Whats This? from the shortcut menu.
- The animated dialogs that appear when adding or extracting files now include a progress meter.
- WinZip now supports the New, Open, Favorites, Close, Print, and Send (mail) keys on keyboards with these "application" keys.
- The compression method previously listed as "Maximum" is now listed as "Maximum (portable)." This is to distinguish it from "Maximum (enhanced deflate)."
- The confirmation dialog that appears when a file will be overwritten during an extract operation has been modified to more closely resemble standard Windows overwrite dialogs.
- WinZip 9.0 Beta 2 also includes these minor corrections:
- WinZip now recognizes Windows Server 2003 and correctly reports this operating system in the About dialogs System Info report, etc.
- The places bar in the Extract dialog now expands customized places bar entries that contain environment variables.
- In the WinZip Classic interface, Shift+Y now correctly invokes the Encrypt action.
- Commands that are defined by Windows as "extended" commands will now correctly appear in Classic interface shortcut menus only if the Shift key was pressed when the file was right-clicked.
