ATI continues to leave gamers drooling at the doorsteps of retail and online stores everywhere. ATI has held onto the performance crown for a long time in video card years thanks to the 9700 PRO which was first announced in August of 2002. Seven months later the world was introduced to the Radeon 9800 PRO and half a year after that the words "XT" are beginning to find a place on consumers lips.

Our friends at DarkCrow have published info on a quad (4x-)R300 card with each GPU adressing 256MB. It will be built by Evans & Sutherland.
The Inquirer reports that it will be used by the military for visualization needs.
"
simFUSION 6000q System is the name on the card and it can go up to 24X
in Anti-aliasing which is three times more then any gamer card. The
mission of this card is to make simulations in various situations and
this arrangement can generate some very nice and photo-realistic
graphics, we suggese. Evans & Sutherland uses them for simulations

Games: ATi set to make a Half-Life 2 announcement tomorrow

AN OFFICIAL from ATi Technologies has exclusively advised the INQUIRER that the company is confident of being in a position to finally make an announcement regarding Half-Life 2 tomorrow (Thursday 24th October).
We anticipate this will be in relation to the bundling promises ATi has made to its trade and end-user customers, who have already committed to Radeon 9600XT and 9800XT product purchases. These guys will be sitting staring at their HL2 vouchers, wondering what theyre worth, we suggest.

With the RV350 powered Radeon 9600 Pro being such a big hit so far since launch in the early Summer, due to a combination of low price, full DX9 compatibility that hasnt needed a miracle set of driver writers working under duress to extract nice performance, along with a successful process switch to 130nm giving some nice overclocking headroom, todays introduction of the RV360 powered Radeon 9600XT hasnt been a problem for ATI.
Think of 9600XT as a combination of slight hardware improvements and a new driver set with some cool new features, to make it sit just above 9600 Pro in terms of performance and desirability.

We have posted up our review of the ATI Radeon 9800XT. The test system is an Opteron 246 at 2GHz, and it is compared against the Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra, Radeon 9700 Pro and Radeon 9800 Pro.
While the Radeon 9800 XT represents no dramatic change from the Radeon 9800 Pro, it is currently the fastest video card for gaming that you can buy and although at a high price of $499, a card that should last for years and be able to take on tomorrows games. With the recent delay of Half-Life 2, this does come as a setback to ATI but regardless the game will be released and it does come with a coupon for the full version of Half-Life 2. Not only that, but ATI is also working on the 9600 XT, a more mainstream version of the 9800 XT that will be released later this month for $199 and come with the same coupon for Half-Life 2. Currently were not sure when the game will see its release date but there are many other games on the horizon that will take advantage of the Radeon 9800 XTs features and speed.

Early this year we tested mainboards based on ATIs chipsets designed
for Socket 478 and Socket A. The scores were very bad: the industry
leading partners promised by ATI (including FIC and Gigabyte) had
nothing to offer us, and the boards from other companies were slower
even than integrated solutions from VIA and SiS in non-gaming
applications, while 3D performance was the same (sure, they were much
weaker even than the first nForce). Today we are pleased to present
one more integrated 3D solution for the Socket 478 platform - ATIs
new chipset named Radeon 9100 IGP. ATI says that its integrated
graphics core is based on the Radeon 9200, which stands on the level
of the GeForce4 MX in nForce2. Lets see if its a really good
solution.

"TYANs products are well known on the world market, though the
company is known mostly for its mainboards well configured for
operation in servers and workstations. The company entered the video
card market quite recently.
Today we have the flagship of the RADEON based line from TYAN -
G9800PRO-M. The board looks unique."

I asked Terry if CATALYST 3.8 is still on track for Wednesday, since many people on Rage3D are quite anxious to see this CATALYST update. Here is what he said:"Yes we are 100% on track for Wednesday. As a matter of fact I can even tell you what time we expect to post.... 3 pm EST is when they should be live. Also we have talked to numerous web sites about the drivers and expect a few articles to come up at that time as well."
Hardware: ASUSTek joins ATI as premier board partner
Posted by Adek on Wednesday, October 01 @ 21:06:32 CEST
ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) today announced that ASUSTek Computer Inc., a world leading supplier of graphics add-in-cards, has chosen ATI’s RADEON™ VPUs (visual processing units) for its new line of products. Beginning in October, customers will be able to choose the fastest and most advanced graphics cards from ASUS, which is well recognized and trusted by computer gamers everywhere.
ATI broadened its business model in 2001 when it began to sell its graphics chips to third party add-in-card companies in addition to selling graphics cards under its RADEON brand. The new model has so far proven successful for ATI.
“We are very pleased that ASUS has chosen ATI graphics for its new products,” said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President of Marketing and General Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies Inc. “ASUS is a major player in the market and we think that OEMs, system integrators and retail customers will readily adopt ASUS boards that are powered by ATI graphics.”

t’s been more than a year now since ATI contacted me and invited me in for my first press event. At that time they had started to stir up the 3D video card arena by releasing the excellent Radeon 9700 Pro. Since then ATI has basically taken over the high-end (and some would argue are on the verge of taking over the mid-end to soon) segment with their Radeon 9800 and Radeon 9800 Pro cards. So what’s next?
A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a press event here in Stockholm where I would get to see the next step in ATI’s road to supremacy – the Radeon 9800 XT and the Radeon 9600 XT...

Hardware: ATI Technologies CEO Talks About Transition to 0.11 Micron
Posted by Adek on Tuesday, September 30 @ 11:43:53 CEST
ATI Technologies’ co-founder and CEO, Mr. KY Ho said last week that his company was planning a very aggressive transition to 0.13 and 0.11 micron fabrication technologies. This is the first claim of such kind coming from an ATI top executive, as the company is generally very cautious and its decision not to manufacture the high-end RADEON 9700-, 9800-series of graphic processors using 0.13 micron technology, but stick to mature 0.15 micron process, allowed the firm to leave its main rival NVIDIA behind in terms of performance and production costs.
“We do not have any problems with 0.13 margins. Actually, it is the opposite. We want to go into 0.13 and 0.11 very aggressively. If it was creating pressure, I dont think we would be banging our heads against the wall,” KY Ho told Reuters in an interview during Computex Taipei 2003 trade-show.

Software: TC Download: New ATI Omega Drivers based on Catalyst 3.7 drivers
Posted by Adek on Monday, September 08 @ 13:12:53 CEST
OmegaDrive from OmegaCorner released a new set of tweaked ATI drivers for Windows 9X/ME/2K/XP. We are proud to mirror those nice files! Check the details below.
Whats New?
Based on the official Catalyst 3.7 ATI drivers. (9x/ME/2k/XP)
Hope to have fixed all the "card not recognized" problems. (9x/ME/2k/XP)
The 9500->9700 and 9700->9800 hacks are now two separate files, this will fix some incompatibility problems in 9500 cards not liking the 9800 optimizations. (2k/XP)
The 9x/ME drivers still dont have the hacked driver incorporated, sorry. (9x/ME)
Discuss the drivers on DriverHeaven or in our own forums over here.
