Hardware: Gigabyte adds Nvidia nForce2-based motherboards

Gigabyte Technology on May 13 introduced a new Nvidia nForce2-based motherboard line for the K7 platform from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), building cooperation with Nvidia again after it turned to tie up with ATI Technologies in the graphics market in 2002.
The motherboard maker said that its decision was based on consideration to provide a more complete product portfolio, as Nvidia’s nForce2 core logic chipsets are currently the only products supporting the dual-channel memory standard. Gigabyte said that the chipset adoption would not affect its relationship with ATI or VIA Technologies, its primary AMD chipset supplier.

Hardware: Gigabyte plans to introduce nForce2 boards

Gigabyte Technology is said to have tied up with Nvidia again with plans to launch motherboards based on the chip designer’s nForce2 chipsets, according to sources.
A former member of the Nvidia camp for graphics card production, Gigabyte switched sides to join ATI Technologies group in 2002.
According to sources, Gigabyte’s product adoption is limited to Nvidia’s core logic chipsets only. But the fierce competition between Nvidia and ATI as well as ATI’s recent chip shipments to some of its own-brand card-making clients has triggered market speculation about whether Gigabyte’s move is a gesture of protest.

Snip:
So, if the RADEON 9200 has 128MB memory, it will be an exact
copy of the RADEON 9000 in performance. The functionality is
the same. But let's check it in the tests.
Here is the question: what is this 9000 -> 9200 for? Wouldn't
it be better to name it RADEON 9080? It would comply with
its speed level (lower than that of the RADEON 9100) and
reflect the AGP 8x support. Nevertheless, the RADEON 9200
is starting its attack on the market. Actually, this is
simply renaming of the RADEON 9000 with some reservations.
The price is also almost the same.
