Hardware: MSI 865PE/G Neo2 board rises
Posted by viper on Thursday, July 03 @ 19:19:54 CEST
|
|
Users of MSI 865PE/G Neo2 series motherboards now have another opportunity besides MSI D.O.T. Technology to upgrade performance. With a simple BIOS update, MSI has made its proprietary Memory Acceleration Technology (M.A.T.) available to users of this high-end board supporting the latest 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) Pentium® 4 CPUs. M.A.T. optimizes the data transfer rate between the CPU, north bridge chip and memory through shortening the interval between data transfer cycles, enhancing memory performance and effectively increasing bandwidth by up to 10% without the loss of data integrity.
This new technology adds Turbo and Ultra-Turbo options to the BIOS's Frequency/Voltage Control Performance Mode. MSI cannot guarantee its compatibility with all brands of memory modules. Therefore MSI has established slightly more conservative memory timing optimization parameters for the Turbo mode, with more critical settings for the Ultra-Turbo mode. If the modes do not work, MSI™ recommends reverting it to the Fast or Slow mode.

In short, MSI offsets any risk involved with NVIDIA banking heavily on DirectX 9 by adding a lot of extra features, and pricing the product very aggressively. This video card is definitely worth considering if you're looking for some good performance, at a cheap price, with support for future standards.

Reviews: MSI GeForce FX 5200 Reviewed at VR-Zone Hardware
Posted by viper on Tuesday, May 06 @ 08:13:32 CEST

|
VR-Zone Hardware has just posted a review of the MSI GeForce FX 5200:
Overclocking the MSI FX5200 TDR128 was a very
interesting experience. It seemed like the memory
clock was almost set at stock speeds, or 405Mhz
because we could not overclock the memory, with any overclocking program available. We tried Rivatuner, PoweStrip, and many others but still no avail. However, we were able to overclock the core 59Mhz to 309Mhz, and we found that to be the sweet spot of the card as anything above it would cause distortion in the tests.
