Hardware: Samsung Electronics Develops 4-Color Channel TFT-LCD
Posted by Adek on Thursday, May 22 @ 10:29:16 CEST

Samsung Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s largest provider of TFT-LCD display panels, today announced the industry’s first 4-color channel TFT LCD technology. Conventional LCDs have subpixels for three primary colors -- red, green and blue (RGB). With a 4-color channel, Samsung added a white subpixel to maximum brightness for optimum display viewing.

White color is achieved by transmitting fluorescent backlight through an RGB filter. In this process, the luminance of the source light is reduced to 33 percent. Since Samsung’s new 4-color TFT-LCD has an additional white subpixel, the luminance of a backlight is preserved as it is transmitted through a clear white subpixel instead of a colored filter.

Hardware: Samsung Ramps Up Mass Production of NexMod Technology
Posted by viper on Friday, May 09 @ 13:17:00 CEST

Samsung New memory module reduces space needed for RDRAM high-performance, high-density memory

Schwalbach/Ts., Germany - May 9, 2003: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader of advanced memory technology, today announced that its NexMod® technology is now available in mass production in memory configurations ranging from 128MB to 256MB using 288Mb-based RDRAM®.

Samsungs NexModT memory module provides a small form factor module for high-performance RDRAM platforms and significantly reduces the footprint on the system motherboard for space-constrained networking systems. Many of these network systems being designed and deployed today are embracing network processor technology to provide high-performance, flexible and scalable architectures. Several network processors use RDRAM technology, including the Intel® IXP2800 network processor.

Software: Samsung gateway walks into legal nightmare
Posted by ninad on Saturday, May 03 @ 09:48:10 CEST

Samsung SAMSUNG IS IN the throes of releasing a PMG (Personal Mobile Gateway) which looks just like an ordinary clamshell GSM handset.

However, the purpose of the PMG is to enable a whole bunch of different devices – such as mobile phones – to share the same GSM connexion. The idea is that you utilise a Bluetooth connexion to connect to the PMG and start downloading games or ring tones to your mobile phone.

Reviews: Samsung SyncMaster 172T 17" TFT Display review
Posted by viper on Saturday, April 26 @ 17:00:42 CEST

Samsung Quote: "Appearance wise the SyncMaster 172T is identical to the 172w except non widescreen effect and there is no longer the 2 speakers integrated into the stand. Other then that the appearance and design of these displays are identical. The folding feature has not changed and does exactly what the 172w can. The VGA, DVI, and power connector are located on the base of the 172T similar to the 172w. As we have had more time to use and test both of these displays we realized that if they are to be mounted on the wall, the ports and power connector are now situated to the top of the display."

Hardware: Samsung Announces Industry’s Highest Capacity Memory Modules
Posted by Adek on Friday, April 25 @ 16:03:13 CEST

Samsung Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s leader in advanced semiconductor memory technology, today announced mass production of its 1GigaByte (GB) DDR266/DDR333 memory modules which are optimized for notebooks equipped with Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology. The new Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SODIMMs), consisting of 16 512Mb DDR chips configured in two rows, are half the size of an unbuffered DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) used in desktop PCs.

“High performance wireless notebook PCs require high density memory modules,” said Tom Quinn, vice president of U.S. memory sales and marketing. “With Samsung’s 512Mb DDR 266/333 devices in small form factor sTSOP packages, we are able to double system memory capacity and reduce space requirements.”
