Hardware: SiS officially announces SiS648FX chipset

SiS Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS) today officially announced SiS648FX chipset for Pentium 4 with 800MHz FSB. It turned so that some makers (like ASUS) released their solutions before the official chipset release.

Chipset key specs to remind:
  • SiS963L Southbridge
  • MuTIOL 1G (1Gb/s Northbridge-Southbridge throughput) and HyperStreaming
  • DDR400 support (3.2Gb/s throughput)
  • Up to 6 USB2.0/1.1 ports
  • ATA133/100/66 support
  • AGP 8x (AGP 4x backward compatible; 2.1Gb/s thoughput)
  • 5.1-ch. audio (AC’97)
  • Ethernet 10/100Mb
  • Home PNA2.0.
Many companies, including AOpen, Acorp, Biostar, DFI, ECS, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, have already launched their SiS648FX-based volume production.

Hardware: SiS to spin off graphics chip division soon

SiS Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) has decided to spin off its graphics chip division (multimedia product division) as a new subsidiary in May or June under the name of Tu Chiang Technology (transliterated from Chinese), according to sources.

Tu Chiang would be Taiwan’s first graphics chip design firm.
